Now Back in My Day

What do you think of when you hear the word “treat“?

Is it something that you do/eat/experience every once in a while, perhaps after you have achieved something, like passing an exam, or reached a goal, or got a new job?

Does it mean that someone has given you some money unexpectedly, with the words “Go and treat yourself”

Or maybe the doctor has just given you some news and followed up with the words “we would normally treat this with……….”

Back in my day a treat was something that you had rarely, Christmas and Birthdays mainly. A treat was a schweppes fizzy bottle of lemonade or ginger ale at Christmas, a chocolate off the Christmas tree at night just before cleaning your teeth, or a chocolate finger or 2 at a birthday party. These foods were not an everyday occurence, and obesity and juvenille diabetes was unheard of.

In my complementary health clinic, which I have run now for over 20 years, I always think taking a child to the “golden arches” after seeing me, for being good, as a “treat” is a bit of an oxymoron. taking your child for a toxin laden meal is hardly the good thing to do after you have paid out money on a treatment to make the healthier now is it?

What do you think?

How do you treat yourself? I would love to know?

This Makes me Happy
